Praising the successful leadership change of
the Communist Party of China, delegates said the change will usher in a
new period of building the nation into an open, market-oriented and
democratic society.
Although older Party leaders like Jiang
Zemin are absent from the new CPC committee, China's policies will
remain coherent and consistent, because the policies consist of the
crystallized collective intelligence of the whole Party, Wang Xiaofeng,
governor of Hainan Province, said to China Daily yesterday.
"As long as we stick to the
policies, and understand which way we should follow, I am confident we
will see success in the future," said Wang.
Wang was one of the members elected to
the CPC Central Committee yesterday. He said the past 13 years under
Jiang's leadership have been the longest period of stability since the
founding of New China in 1949. The stability lays a solid foundation for
prosperity in the future.
"I believe the thoughts and legacies
of the old will be carried on to the next generation," Wang added.
Guan Chenghua, secretary of the Beijing
Communist Youth League, echoed Wang's view, adding that he has stronger
confidence in the Party following the orderly and smooth leadership
transition, which shows that our Party has matured.
When stepping out of the Great Hall of
the People after the congress closed, delegates were chased by
journalists to talk about their impressions of the congress.
Most of the delegates expressed their
reverence toward the old leadership.
Shen Wenrong, a delegate from Jiangsu
Province, said, "Personally, I would like to see Jiang stay because
China has made great achievements under his leadership over the past 13
years.
"But it is more important for the
Party to progress, and for the next generation to build upon what the
old has achieved."
Chen Feng, president of Hainan Airline,
said one legacy of the old generation is the amendment of the
Constitution of the CPC. The amendment adds the Three Represents into
the Constitution, which allows more entrepreneurs to join the Party.
"Their membership in the Party will
make the Party more advanced and consolidated," said Chen.
"That is because the Party now not only serves as the vanguard for
the working class, but the vanguard for the whole nation."
